From April 5-13 a team of 24 volunteers worked along with the Iglesia Cristiana Congregacional to provide care for over 2000 patients. Eye exams and corrective lenses were provided for over 1500 patients. The dental clinic provided cleanings, extractions and fillings for over 200 patients. Nurses from the Iglesia Congregacional Church provided blood pressure and blood sugar tests for over 300 patients. Lisa Curran provided excellent leadership and the team experienced a wonderful sense of unity working alongside Mexican volunteers.
As part of the ministry, patients were offered spiritual counseling and prayer. Over 800 people prayed to receive Christ into their lives. Many people with significant problems sought prayer and follow-up. Our chauffeur, Enrique, who drove us to the clinic each day prayed to receive Christ on Friday. He has been connected with Pastors Daniel and Jose for follow-up care.
As always on a trip of this nature, there are special cases that come into our lives during the week.
Alejandra, a woman who was blind in one eye and had a cataract in the other had surgery on Friday.....and can SEE! We paid for the lens in her eye, and God provided funds for the surgeon through selling some instruments that were donated. We met Alejandra last October during the Seattle Christian School mission trip. We referred her to the Mano con Mano Mazatlan relief fund for help, and church workers made sure she got the care she needed. Alejandra came to share her testimony with us on the closing day of the April clinic.
Citlali, a little girl with cerebral palsy and short Achilles tendons, met Ernestina through the clinic announcements on Tuesday of the week of our arrival. She had surgery on Monday while we were there.
Rosa Maria, a woman with rheumatoid arthritis came to the vision clinic. She had been unable to begin treatment due to lack of financial resources. By Tuesday evening she had the medications she needed, was connected with a rheumatologist and will have the continued care she needs.
There are at least 22 "special cases" from the April clinic who will be followed up for surgery, dental care and ongoing medical needs. We were able to leave $1500 in the MCM Mazatlan Fund for Ernestina and Dalila to use in what they call their "Five Loaves and Two Fishes Ministry."
Thank you for helping to make this ministry possible though your prayers, encouragement and donations.
