Short Term Mission trips are the foundation
of the ministry at Mano con Mano.
Every year, Mano con
Mano leads or sponsors a team of medical and dental professionals, along
with lay volunteers to Latin America to provide health care for the poor.
The focus of these trips is to provide an avenue for God's love to be
expressed to patients by meeting a practical need. As a result of this
work, patients are offered an opportunity to receive spiritual care along
with their treatment. Many patients choose to hear about Christ, enroll
in a Bible study, or ask for prayer. In addition to leading at least one
Mano con Mano team per year into Latin America, members of Mano con Mano
often participate in health care teams led by other organizations. Some
Mano con Mano board members and alumni have gone on to lead teams through
their churches and sister organizations.

Frequently
Asked Questions:
How much does a
trip cost?
The average cost of participating in a short-term mission trip to Mexico
is $750-900 per person. This includes food, housing, transportation and
ministry expense.
Does Mano con Mano
make money off mission trips? No,
the goal of MCM mission trips is that they will be self supporting and
fiscally neutral to the ministry. Unfortunately, medical and dental care
are expensive, so we often seek outside donations to support the cost
of mission trips to keep team fees affordable for individuals.
Do I have
to be a professional to participate on a team? No,
although we need a core group of medical and dental volunteers to staff
each team, we are able to take a large number of lay volunteers and train
them to do support work in our clinics.
What kinds of professionals
are needed on MCM teams?
Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Assistants, Doctors, Nurses, Optometrists,
Medical Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Physician's Assistants, Mechanics
(for equipment maintenance)
Are youth allowed
to participate on MCM trips?
Yes, if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, students over the age
of 15 who have studied Spanish are sometimes considered for MCM teams.
Specific decisions are handled on a team by team basis.
Do I need to be a
Christian to participate in a MCM team?
Yes. Because MCM is an evangelical health care organization,
it is important that team members share the same spiritual background. MCM
accepts believers in all stages of their Christian journey from any Christian
denomination. Bible study and prayer are an integral part of every team.
